In Between
Entrance Space, Zheng Zhou
2023
Active in between spaces is the collision of different possibilities and tensions. Everything in our lives seems to be interpreted with precise units of measurement. Whether it's the distance in physical space or the differences in perceptual cognition, we seem to focus more on the beginning and the end, while the middle becomes an accessory to creating meaning and results. Art and aesthetics have been questioned countless times in the human process, questioning the meaning, the outcome, the value. It is precisely because of this that artists wander between ontology and collectivity, as well as between determinacy and indeterminacy, constantly breaking predictions and proposing hypotheses about the distance between spaces and minds.

When stepping into the exhibition space, for most people, the distance between different levels of interest, cognition, and knowledge of contemporary art immediately emerges. This predetermined mentality blocks the most authentic feelings as viewers. Yet it is precisely this feeling that resonates with contemporary art and the era we live in, giving it purpose. So let's set aside the so-called knowledge of art history theory, set aside philosophical questions, and focus on our own perception. Let's no longer dwell on the input of results and knowledge, but freely roam between "distances".
